When "Just Do It" doesn't work for you.

Find out what does.

Just do it!

Find your passion. Discover your purpose. Answer your calling. Do big things in the world. Just do it!

It sounds so easy. Read the right book. Take the right seminar. Take a month off and really explore it. Take that ten-month workshop and you’ll be all set.

Others are living their best lives. It's so easy for them.

Some people are able to do it. They simply leap into the great unknown and land on a pile of money. What’s wrong with me, you ask? Why can’t I just do it?

So, like the responsible people we are, we look within ourselves for the reason why it’s so hard for us. What do we need? More confidence? Better boundaries? Less anxiety?

Broken 🙁

The problem is us. We’re too shy, too much, too tired, too focused on others.

If the problem is us, then our effort becomes focused on fixing ourselves. We need more confidence, better boundaries, less anxiety. When we’ve addressed these issues perhaps we’ll be better able to follow our bliss all the way to the bank.

In short, we’re so quick to blame ourselves and then quietly spend years and years trying to fix what’s wrong with us. One more workshop, one more self-help book, one more retreat, then we’ll be ready.

What if we’re solving the wrong problem?

Living in our minds.

Within this framework, we never actually begin, and we end up living in our minds., feeling embarrassed or ashamed that we can’t make stuff happen for ourselves, like all the other “just do it” people out there.

The result is we never actually do things in the real world. And, we’re living these angsty lives, feeling our untapped potential, but unable to do anything about it.

Solving the wrong problem.

What if we’re all solving the wrong problem?

What if there’s nothing wrong with us, but the problem is with the unhelpful strategies our culture has given us?

You can’t fix you because there’s nothing wrong with you. You are a work in progress and you will always be a work in progress. There is no finish line. If you wait until you’re fixed, you’ll never do what you’re supposed to be doing with your one wild and precious life.

None of us are perfect, and we definitely all have things that trip us up in life. But, that’s life. Waiting until those things are resolved means you’re sitting this one out. You’ve side-lined yourself.

Where are the solutions found?

I believe the solutions are found when you get on your journey. A little planning and contemplation to set your course, and then get going.

Your perfect self-help plan will arise as you go. That’s because you’ll run into an emotion that stops you in your tracks  – fear, doubt, uncertainty, anxiety, people-pleasing.

Then, you just need enough awareness, ideas, and strategies to dissolve your barrier. So, you can get going again.

Forget "Just do It"; try "Go slow to go fast."

When “Just do it”, doesn’t work for you, you can still “get it done” your very own way.

You can be thoughtful. You can be kind to yourself. You can take it one step at a time and still get what you want.

When “Just Do It” doesn’t work for you.
