Your 2020.
As 2019 enters its final month, maybe you can see 2020 on the horizon, abuzz with its energy of a new year, a new workout regime, a new diet, a new career, a new us. That can be a lot of new!
What worked in 2019? What didn’t work? Where did you leap forward? Where has nothing changed? Where are you ready, really ready to move forward in 2020? What’s your plan?
I recently read #futureboards by Sarah Centrella and wanted to share her book with you as one way you might want to get started.
Vision Boards of Yore
As soon as I hear about Vision Boards I picture “bristol board”, a glue pot, and magazine photos of beach vacations and champagne toasts. And then I don’t do one.
The idea seems dated and not focused on what I want. It seems like it’s from the era of pasting that $1,000 bill on the ceiling above your bed so you can dream of manifesting boatloads of money.
So, what was different about #futureboards?
A new kind of Vision Board ... #Futureboards
I think one of the reasons that her method is so compelling is that she combines her version of vision boards with a process of self discovery that both opens up the dreaming part of you and also encourages examining what’s been getting in the way. Stir some action into that dream pot, and you’re on your way!
How is it different?
1) Sarah has a process she uses around developing your Futureboards, 2) She uses Pinterest, rather than magazines to gather those images. Because you can do it on your phone or on your computer, you can be building your boards any time.
For me, when I’m standing in line somewhere or am feeling down and need a boost, I can simply click on my Pinterest icon and immediately be inspired and realigned with my dream for myself. Getting clarity on that is so motivating.
Part 1: The Plan
Part 1 walks you through the process and gives you the framework to really dream. If knowing what you really want is hard for you, this is a great structure to help you see your vision come alive.
Part 2: The Build
This is where you build your board on-line and then distill it down to something that motivates you, inspires you. It helps get things out of your head in into your life.
Part 3: Making it a reality.
You’ve made your Futureboard. Now what? This is “the how” part. How do you live the vision you’ve created.
"Dreamers" vs "Thinkers"
In her years of helping people go through this process, Sarah notes a difference between dreamers and thinkers. There are different strategies and ideas for both.
You’re a “dreamer” if you have no problems coming up with all sorts of ideas, but bring those ideas into the real world is the tough part.
You’re a “thinker” if you’re someone who is practical, who struggles with seeing the big picture, who researches things until they’re no longer a good idea, she has some tips and strategies for you.
