Details of my book club are now available. To find out more and to sign up, go here.

The Beautiful No

Have you heard? There’s a new book called The Beautiful No. It comes out on June 4, and it’s right in the sweet spot for Midlife Women who are wondering what’s next in their work and in their lives.

Roadmap for Transformation

It’s Sheri Salata’s story of becoming Oprah Winfrey’s Executive Producer – what got her there and what happened after. Sheri has often said that she had her dream career but not her dream life. Now she is on a journey to create that dream life.

The book been called a “roadmap for transformation” by Elizabeth Gilbert. “An honest, funny, and soulful look at what it means to take stewardship over your own existence.”

Want to Read it Together?

Book Club! I’m going to create a Book Club for the Beautiful No so we can read it together. I’m so excited about this! I don’t have all the details because I don’t yet have the book yet, but I wanted to give you a heads up.

Here are things I know right now.

  • It will be an on-line book club that you dial into and/or join by video.
  • It’ll be an hour, once a week, and the calls will be recorded so you can download them if you can’t join live.
  • It’ll have structure, led by me, but also be fluid depending on what members want to talk about.
  • It will start mid-June (Summer reading!)
  • It’s free.

Things I don't know yet.

  • I’m envisioning that we cover two chapters per call, but I need to read the book to make sure that makes sense.
  • I don’t yet know the exact start date, but I’m thinking about Tuesday or Wednesday evening at 7 EST. Stay tuned for confirmation. Or let me know what you think.
  • I don’t know how many weeks it will be (don’t know how many chapters there are). But let’s say 6 or 7 weeks for now.
  • I’m not sure if Summer is a great time for a book club because of vacations etc, but this is when the book comes out, so we’ll figure it out as we go!
  • Stay tuned for more details!

Format

One of the things I’d like to do on our calls is link it to our own transformations as we navigate midlife. As you read through Sheri’s story, we’ll use it as a guide and ask some questions of ourselves.

Where did Sheri have big life lessons; where did we have those lessons? What were our themes during certain phases? What did our soul want us to learn and different stages of our journeys? And how does that inform us as we head into this next chapter?

I’ll provide the structure. All you have to do is show up (and maybe have read the chapters … maybe not 🙂 )

Themes, Soul Lessons

Going back and looking at our lives can be very enlightening as you contemplate what’s next. At this stage of life, we can feel very lost and alone, but there are actually clues and themes if you look back mindfully.

You may even already have done exercises like this, but I think doing it alongside someone else’s journey will provide more insights and inspiration. Also, doing this with other women will show you that you’re not alone. This is a rite of passage that really has no cultural structure, so we end up thinking we’re the only ones. So many of us are figuring it out. Let’s join forces and do it together!

Who the heck is Sheri Salata?

If you haven’t already, you can find her (and her best friend Nancy Hala’s) life navigation system, at The Pillar Life and you can listen to their fabulous podcast, the Sheri and Nancy Show (formerly This is 50) where they talk about their pillars and interview experts on love, health, purpose, money, inspiration, etc.

Stay Tuned!

As soon as I get the book, I’ll be better able to fill in the details of the Book Club, which I’ll share with you. In the meantime, read more about The Beautiful No, including how to pre-order the book. Let me know if you have thoughts or questions!
