I thought coaching was going to be a version of cheerleading; an amassing of self-help knowledge, and an accountability framework that held my feet to the fire. It can be that, if that’s what you want, but that’s not the essence of it.
What You Really Get From Coaching
We help you discover and articulate your dreams.
We support you in understanding what’s been getting in the way. (Hint: It’s your mind.)
We help you feel better.
When your thoughts are aligned with what you really, really want and you feel better, you take action, without having to white-knuckle it or use will-power.
You get results.
Then what happens?
Your coach does the heavy lifting at first, helping to spot what lies beneath the surface, teaching you the tools, cleaning up what has blocked you in the past. As you become more practiced, then you can coach yourself. I’m there to help you navigate new thorny things and blocks that keep getting in the way.
We can’t always see ourselves and that holds us back. A coach is in your corner, without an agenda, without advice. We believe the answers are in you, and we are trained, with specific tools, to help you find those answers.
Coaching Blew Mind Mind. Literally.
One of the reasons I became a life coach is because coaching rattled my brain and made me think of life in a completely different way — a way that saved me, from me – if that makes any sense.
Like many people, I get anxious. Sometimes it’s overwhelming. On my own, my way of managing my feelings was by doing things like walking, affirmations, and meditation, but those things only got me so far. I knew I needed to change, but I didn’t know how.
It Can Change Things in A Big Way
Enter Martha Beck, my mentor. I’ve never been coached personally by Martha herself, but I have been coached by Martha Beck Master Coaches, Life Coaches, and coaches in training. It blew my mind. Literally. I needed it to get blown because I needed a new way to be in the world.
The core of it is that it changes you a very profound way. It makes you see yourself, your self-induced barriers, and the world in a different way. It shows you how to be different, do stuff differently so you’ll get different results.
We Tried to Think of a Different Name. Honest.
There was a time when, if you said you were a life coach, people automatically asked for what sport. Since then, life coaches have been searching for a new handle that made more sense. But there doesn’t seem to be an optimal name for what we do. So while some continue to search for a better moniker, the rest of us are embracing the term Life Coach. Life coaches focus on different things. I focus on careers and entrepreneurship.
Mini Sessions
I offer free 20 minute sessions. You get to ask questions about coaching and see if it’s the right thing for you.
I’ll leave you with one last thought, and it’s a big one — while pain can be part of life, suffering is optional. It’s likely that the world is going to deal you blows, hand you a crap-sandwich, send you into some sort of trough. There are ways to minimize the suffering. Coaching is one of them. Maybe with me. Maybe with someone else. Or maybe there’s another solution. The important thing to know is that there’s a way – a way to get unstuck and move forward in life. And you don’t have to do it alone.
