In this section, we&#8217;re getting practical and learning how to use our body as a compass to help us discern what we should move towards and what we might want to move away from. \u00a0<\/p><p>We get into our bodies and we calibrate it to recognize what feels good and what doesn&#8217;t. Once this is done, you can check in with your body to see what information it is giving you in big and small situations. Sometimes your Body Compass is consistent with what your mind is thinking and sometimes it&#8217;s not. And that&#8217;s really interesting information to have.<\/p><p>You may already naturally do some version of this, but it&#8217;s worth it to spend a few minutes to really refine it so you can use your body intentionally to help guide you through big and small decisions. Once you start doing this, you&#8217;ll wonder how (and why) you made so many decisions with just your mind.<\/p><p>I calibrated my body compass doing this exercise a long time ago and still use it today. It stays pretty consistent over time. Here&#8217;s how you do it:<\/p><p>\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-0f4f5ab elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"0f4f5ab\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-e6d49a0\" data-id=\"e6d49a0\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e5c2681 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"e5c2681\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Here's How You Do It<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-4b68b69 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"4b68b69\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>1) Climb into your body using the Getting Grounded Meditation.<\/p><p>2) Think about something that happened in the last little while that you didn&#8217;t like. Use something small like someone getting on your nerves or doing something that someone else wanted you to do that you had no desire to do. (Tip: Don&#8217;t use a really tough situation. It&#8217;s not necessary for this exercise.) Find that moment and feel the feeling. Then go to the next level and identify the actual sensations in your body (Note: We&#8217;re not used to noticing the actual sensations in our bodies, so give yourself a little time to notice these.) Give this collection of feelings and sensations a name. (I call mine &#8216;Nope&#8217;. See how I did it below.)<\/p><p>3) Shake off those feelings and sensations. You don&#8217;t have to stay there. In fact, now you&#8217;re going somewhere way more pleasant.<\/p><p>4) Repeat the process for something that happened in the last week or two that you really liked. Someone praised you for some well done work. You discovered a podcast where the host speaks your language. A walk in the morning that feels delicious. You connected with an old friend or your dog or cat. Give it a name. (I call this collection of feelings and sensations Yeah! You can call it anything you like.)<\/p><p>5) Now, bring your attention to a decision you&#8217;re struggling with. Start with something small, like what to make for dinner. Or, is it the right time to connect with someone you haven&#8217;t spoken to in awhile? Or, if you&#8217;re looking for work, what&#8217;s the best use of your time. Define your options. e.g. I should meet my friend for coffee. Yes or No.<\/p><p>6) Go into your body and notice how each option feels in your body. Is there an option that is the Yeah feeling? Is one clearly Nope?<\/p><p>Does it confirm something for you? Is it unexpected and you want to explore it further? Does one of the options make you feel relieved?<\/p><p>Be curious. Test and play. Your body is a perfectly designed compass that helps guide you to where you want to go. When making a decision, go ahead and make your list of pros and cons, but also check in with your Body Compass.\u00a0<\/p><p>What wisdom is your body sharing with you? Does your mind jump into shut that wisdom down? Can you do some mini experiments to gain some trust in those feelings?\u00a0<\/p><p>When navigating your life, your work, your relationships your Body Compass becomes invaluable. It&#8217;s easy. It&#8217;s accessible. It&#8217;s free. I think of the event and then I notice the feelings in my body. I feel disappointed, sad, and that something is not quite right, like I&#8217;m missing some information. That shows up as tension in my solar plexus, a lump in the back of my throat, and I muddled thinking. I call this collection of feelings and sensations, Nope.\u00a0<\/p><p>Then I turn to a good, pleasant, positive event that I experienced in the last week or so. I go into my body and notice the feelings in my body. I feel excited, a little giddy, relaxed, light. Then I notice the body sensations beneath those feelings: quick flutters in my chest area, my shoulders drop, my heart seems to push forward in my chest. I&#8217;ve given this collection of sensations in my body a name: Yeah.\u00a0<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-8814a06 elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"8814a06\" data-element_type=\"section\"
